Visual Journey

Spells number 1-2 were written as a warm up exercise to judge how easily we could write rhymes.
Spells number 3-6 were included in our work in progress performance to tell the story of The Witches of Berwick in a comedic style. We used different accents here which was the starting block for our interest in languages/accents.
We decided to translate one simple spell into our four languages that we each felt comfortable with to create a more mysterious atmosphere as the audience wouldn’t understand our words, giving our characters a ‘secret’ identity such as ones that you can obtain on the internet.
Our props were kept simple to avoid them being relied upon in our performance instead of our bodies and voices. Additionally we had a spare chair in the audience for James to sit on. A lighter to light the candle that we each had a sand bucket to safely extinguish the flames.
Diagram of our set/props and staging. The audience were sat End on with a gap through the middle. Our main action was in the center of the stage but we vitalized the entire space in our movement sequences.
A brainstorm that we did in our early rehearsal process to become familiar with the word witches and phrase witch hunt.
A storyboard of our final performance.
One of the Goya paintings that Sophie explored.
Another Goya drawing. This one particularly caught our attention due to the scary faces, this inspired us to wear a mask to create an identity that would evoke the audience’s fear.
